John Alexander

John Alexander is a retired Australian tennis player who was born on July 4, 1951, in Sydney, Australia. He was a top-ranked player in the 1970s and 1980s and is widely regarded as one of the greatest Australian tennis players of all time.

Alexander turned professional in 1968 and quickly established himself as a strong doubles player. He won his first Grand Slam doubles title at the 1977 Australian Open, partnering with Phil Dent. He went on to win three more Grand Slam doubles titles during his career.

In singles, Alexander was known for his strong serve and aggressive play. He reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon and the US Open multiple times and was a finalist at the Australian Open in 1977, where he lost to Vitas Gerulaitis in four sets.

In addition to his success on the court, Alexander was also a successful businessman and served as a member of the Australian parliament from 1984 to 1995. He also served as the president of Tennis Australia from 2006 to 2009.

After retiring from professional tennis, Alexander continued to be involved in the sport as a coach and commentator. He was inducted into the Australian Tennis Hall of Fame in 1998.
